2017 Review! Top 3 Films

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more reviews and interviews.

We got an avalanche of comic book films and it was so difficult to choose a top 3. After weeks of debate, here is our top 3 of the year!

3rd – Get Out

While visiting his girlfriend’s family, Chris discovers that there is more to the seemingly idyllic family and community which are hiding a sinister conspiracy. This movie offers up twists and turns throughout and you certainly won’t be disappointed if you decide to give this movie a look.

2nd – Jigsaw

This is the eighth entry in the Saw Franchise where sadistic killer Jigsaw is back to his old tricks, despite his apparent death a decade earlier. We are treated to a whole new game as his victims fight to survive the twisted game. If you are a fan of this franchise you will not be disappointed by the twist you are treated to at the end.

1st – Justice League

With Superman dead, Batman and Wonder Woman must recruit super powered individuals to defend the world against their newest otherworldly enemy called Steppenwolf. Together with their new allies in Cyborg, Aquaman and the Flash they form what we know as the Justice League and in my opinion this movie is a must see for any die hard comic book fan

3rdStar Wars: The Last Jedi

While this movie was very divisive, I had fun with it. I enjoyed the arc of the characters and the direction they took the universe. I wont go into any spoilers but there were parts and sequences in the movie that had me grinning from ear to ear. I didn’t really have much expectations going into this, so it was nice to see a movie that I could watch and not feel like I was constantly judging in my own head. I’m looking forward to seeing what episode IX has in store.

2ndJustice League

I will be honest, I was not looking forward to this movie. With all the let downs the DCEU had brought me, and the shift in tone between trailers, I just was not expecting anything from this movie. This movie massively exceeded my expectations. I went to watch it with my girlfriend and she described it perfectly, it felt like a comic book on screen. That’s all I have ever wanted from a DC movie. It wasn’t perfect but it got that feeling right!

1stSpider-Man Homecoming

I loved seeing Spider-Man in Civil war so getting to see him in his own movie had me very excited. I was never a fan of the Amazing Spider-man franchise so I really enjoyed the very different take this movie had compared to them. I love easter eggs and comic book references in movies, and this one had it in spades. It was fantastic seeing the costume and bigger MCU references, and the villain twist was also a very welcome addition. I cant wait to see more of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Infinity war.

3rd – Spider-Man Homecoming

We got another reboot this year of Spider-Man but this was different. This was the MCU Spider-Man, this was potentially the Spider-Man we had all been waiting for. Tobey Maguire was a good Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield was a good Spider-Man, but Tom Holland is a good Peter Parker and Spider-Man. We got tension, we got some great action set pieces and that scene in the car was so intense and a twist I did not see coming. It’s great we finally have a Spider-Man in our MCU and I can’t wait to see him in future MCU movies.

2nd – Thor Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok was a surprise hit for me. Not in the sense that it was going to be a hit, but in the way that it was a hit. Ragnarok brought comedy into the MCU rivalling Guardians and completely rebranded Thor. This was an enjoyable and brilliant movie that very nearly broke the Marvel bad villain curse.

1st – Justice League

Justice League may be to some people, a controversial choice as my number 1. To me, it was an easy decision. I came out of this movie with a huge smile on my face and I had really enjoyed watching it. Yes we have shit CG, yes we could have got more backstory, yes Steppenwolf was a shitty villain and yes there was that whole 2 directors. But forget all that and just enjoy the movie. We have all of these superheroes together and having banter and being funny. The movie moved at a quick pace which was a good thing compared to BVS where I nearly fell asleep. This is a great movie and that end credits scene!! I hope WB figure out what they are doing and just go for it because people will go see future movies.
