This is it. The Long awaited trailer for the next installment in the Star Wars franchise, the Han Solo movie. It is no secret that this movie has been a nightmare behind the scenes, directors (allegedly) fired, bad casting choices and script re-writes. We got a tease for this trailer during the Super Bowl, and now that it’s out, does it settle the concerns people have about this movie? For me anyway, it doesn’t.
This does look like a fun movie, don’t get me wrong. I like the idea of delving into aspects of the Star Wars universe that we haven’t seen before. I actually think Rogue One is one of the better Star Wars movies. The problem I have with this is that, for being a Han solo movie, we see more of everyone else, and not a lot of Han Solo.
The casting of Alden Ehrenreich as Solo has been controversial from the start, and this trailer didn’t really do anything to put people’s minds at ease. Obviously it is just a first trailer, but the movie comes out in 3 months. The trailer could just be teasing Solo, he is the main part of the story and they might not want to give his character away too much.
VERDICT: MAJOR SURGERY
If this was a normal Star Wars trailer I would be excited. It had aliens, spaceships and robots, everything you need in a good Star Wars movie. However this is meant to be the genesis of Han Solo, and the trailer really didn’t make me feel that way. His presence felt more of a cameo, than a main role.
