Santa Clarita Diet Season 1

Santa Clarita diet is one of those shows that wasn’t really on my radar. I came across it when I was mindlessly scrolling through the hundreds of TV shows and films across Netflix. So you’ll imagine my happiness when I’ve found what looks to be a potentially good show. Especially since there really is some garbage on Netflix that’s there just to fill the library out, has anyone even watched ‘Zoo’?

This show has quite a familiar premise but takes it on a unique twist, and it works great. The story in a nutshell is that Sheila is now dead and is a zombie and needs to eat people. You could name 10 other shows and films with that premise. The unique twist is what makes this show great. Sheila and Joel are your average family and it’s all about how they deal with, let’s say, Sheila’s new dietary requirements. At its core, it’s about how far Joel will go for the one he loves, and it is far.

This could have been a dark and depressing show but it’s the comedy that makes it such a great and easy watch. Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant have a great chemistry and it’s believable that they are husband and wife. Barrymore and Olyphant really drive the show on and it is great to see the predicaments they get themselves in to. It really is a show that you’ll binge watch easily and be disappointed when the finale comes round.

The only criticism I have of the show is the reasoning of why Sheila is this dead zombie. They try and explain all of the mythology and I do understand it, I just don’t really buy it. The fact that her body parts start falling off as well, they can only delay that symptom so long before they will have to explain how her body is still all together. I can look past this though and enjoy the show as it’s definitely one of the better Netflix originals.

DIAGNOSIS – INPATIENT CARE

Really a show you can just sit down and watch and enjoy through out. The comedy is on point and you have to enjoy the performances of the cast. I wasn’t sure a season 2 was needed but I’m glad we are getting it!

Santa Clarita Diet Season 2 is out on Netflix this Friday 23rd March.
