So my fellow gamers it is that time of year again where we all gather round our laptops or mobile phones to watch these eagerly awaited conferences. Where we are treated to some of the best upcoming games for the next year. That’s right, it’s time for E3 2018!!
So this year we started off with EA and to be honest, I for one was not looking forward to this at all. After all the hassle we had with Loot boxes in Star Wars to just the outright controversy that surrounded EA over the past 6/7 months. But nevertheless I am a dedicated gamer so I always watch every conference. So here we go!!
So it was a very straight forward start to the show with EA telling us all about games that we have come to expect every year from the dramatic trailer of FIFA 19. Now with the Champions League and Serie A licences locked down (Still wonder to this day how it took them so long). Also showing us Madden 19 which is now coming to PC for the 1st time in 10 years, we also got a little look at NBA Live 19 aswell.
So now that the Generic Sports games are out of the way lets take a look at some of the bigger news that EA had up there sleeve.
It was refreshing to see Battlefield V announce that the fully destructive environments that DICE had run rampant with in Bad Company, are making their return in this installment so now nowhere is safe, as you will be able to rampage straight through buildings and destroy cover in real time. Also you are now able to dive roll through windows, another great addition! Oh and I forgot to mention, NO LOOT BOXES AND NO PREMIUM PASS!! This was certainly a shock announcement for EA to pull out! Finally the 1 thing I was hoping they would not jump on the bandwagon with, but they did, is a new Royale mode…..sigh….
RESPAWNS NEW STAR WARS GAME IS CALLED JEDI: FALLEN ORDER
So we took a jump to the crowd where Respawn’s Vince Zampella, who had a massive announcement for us, that we will be getting a new Star Wars game where you will be playing as a Jedi, Lightsabers and all. The Game is set to take place “during the dark times” between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, where Jedi are being Hunted.
BATTLEFRONT 2 TAKING ON THE CLONE WARS
So Star Wars Battlefront 2 is getting a whole bunch of new stuff this year, which includes a new Squad System, a new Starfighter mode, new capture mode along with new heroes such as Obi-Wan making his debut along with General Grievous and Anakin Skywalker, We are also getting new maps which are lifted straight from the Clone Wars. To be honest this almost felt like an apology of sorts which is long overdue for all us Star Wars fans.
So Unravel two looks just as cute as the first game but this time it comes with a Co-Op focus that has both players utilizing their abilities to swing around trees and dodge hazards such as birds! Now EA were definitely making sure that you understood this could be played in single player aswell as the other yarn character just wraps around you, then you have control over both of them. The crowd seemed really into this and it got an even bigger cheer when EA announced that it was available now on PS4, Xbox and PC.
COMMAND AND CONQUER RIVALS.
Command and Conquer is getting a mobile release version and to be honest this was definitely one of the lowest points of the conference as they announced to gamers to come out and show it off to no ovation at all which was kind of awkward, but yea I don’t have much to say about this so below is the video of it and you can form your own opinion of it.
SEA OF SOLITUDE (SOS)
Another EA Indie title announced and I’m all for these massive companies throwing their money behind these small studios to produce stunningly beautiful games and this Sea Of Solitude was no different. We had the creative director come out to tell us about the game and show us the footage.
So EA kept the big one to the end, personally for me this is the one I had been waiting to hear more about and I am pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed with what I saw.
We started with an on-stage interview segment where we are told about how they are approaching this much hyped action RPG, I am pleased to say it seems very focused on story which we know Bioware are the masters of, along with the statement that they will be adding things to the game “for years to come”. Now that alone is a very bold statement as Destiny Developers said the same thing and look how that turned out.
Now as we already know the Sci-fi action game is designed round the “Javelin” exo suit you wear given that your character is the one who wears the suit. You will be able to change your suit whenever you want to fit the mission or your team makeup, so in a nutshell these are just character classes.
NO LOOT BOXES!! WOOHOOO although not a huge surprise to be fair I am just glad to see that a money grabbing company like EA have actually listened to the community albeit against what they want no doubt. Below is the trailer for the upcoming anthem guys so enjoy and have a great E3!!
A predictable and pretty by the book E3 conference by EA. Hopefully we get to see more of Anthem in the other conferences!
